harsh glottal attack  Initiating phonation of a word or sound with a glottal plosive.  This adducted (closed) state may be accompanied by considerable muscle tension

 

hemorrhage  Rupture of a blood vessel. This may occur in a vocal fold

 

hyoid bone  A horseshoe-shaped bone known as the "tongue bone." It is attached to muscles of the tongue and related structures, and to the larynx and related structures

hyperfunction  Excessive muscle effort for example, pressed voice, muscular tension dysphonia

 

hypofunction  Low muscular effort, for example, soft breathy voice.  Pressed phonation

 

hypernasal  Excessive nasal resonance (sensations of vibration experienced in the nasal passages of facial mask, brought on by sympathetic and or forced vibration)

 

hyponasal  Deficient nasal resonance
